WORD IS BOND – FRIENDS

Our good friends & partners in crime at TURF Bikes just released the friends section from the full length video we made in 2014. If you never saw this or just haven’t watched it in a while, then go ahead and do yourself a favor by pressing play and getting back up to speed. The majority of the footage was shot during the cross country road trip everyone to from NY to CA for the 2013 Red Bull Ride & Style. Keep your eyes peeled for the last 3 sections of the video dropping this month.

ED WONKA | OAKLAND PEGS

Ed Wonka Laforte - Turf Bikes - Oakland - Pegs 1

I was looking through some older photos on my computer and came across these two shots that Seitaro Iki took of Ed “Wonka” Laforte riding a double peg down a rail in down town Oakland. These were taken back when we were still filming for Word Is Bond and were shot on the same day that Ed did the huge hanger at the end of his section. Check out an alternate angle below or browse through more of Seitaro Iki’s Photography HERE.

WHEEL TALK JAPAN TRIP 2013

After nearly a year in the making and being put on the back burner in order to produce “Word Is Bond“, here’s the official video from the Wheel Talk Trip to Japan. Filmed over the course of our two week stay and was made possible because of our dudes from Fish & Chips Crew. After traveling around the Southern tip of Japan on a 9 State tour, and flying out to Tokyo to visit Marco we were only able to scratch the surface on what unreal street spots Japan had to offer. I don’t know if there’s much more I can say about this trip that I haven’t already, so press play and check out some screenshots below.

As we gear up to release the video from the Wheel Talk trip to Japan last year, I dug up a bunch of photos that were never posted. Between Seitaro Iki and myself, we shot a ton of stills and even more video. Documenting everything from our daily expeditions around whatever town we were in that day, to our nightly pit stop at Yayoiken for dinner. Keep it posted for the video release, until then check out more photographs HERE. Photo Credit : Seitaro Iki & Matt Reyes

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since we stepped foot in Japan. After spending two weeks traveling around the Country, we had grown accustomed to drinking Hennessy with our native friends & sweating it out at the end of everyday in the unbelievably humid climate. If it wasn’t boiling hot outside, it was dumping buckets of rain. Never the less, we quickly overlooked the unfamiliar climate in awe of the unbelievable street spots Japan had to offer. The white shells on the top photo were probably my favorite slice of architecture we encountered. They’d never build something like that in California. They’re far too aware of the consequences to construct such a perfect potato chip. Big thanks to Seitaro Iki for shooting a ton of behind the scenes photos and YSO for making this all happen. ED WONKA | TOOTH HANGOVER

Seitaro Iki shot this photo of Ed Wonka muscling out a tooth hangover while we wrapped up filming for the new Turf Bikes video. If you’ve seen Word Is Bond, then I’m sure you’ll recognize this shot from the last clip in his section. Ed hangovers rails that few would even attempt, and has no problems blasting through even the deadliest of kinks. Which is why I consider tooths to be Ed’s signature move. DEVOUR FILMS EXHIBITION

I saw this photo on Froots of our good friend Seitaro Iki at the Devour Films Exhibition that’s going on all this week. It’s rare to see prints of digital photos which is why I was stoked when I saw Say standing next to a photograph he took of Devon Lawson & I (Matt Reyes) while he lived in SF. Check out more HERE

35MM | MOB MENTALITY

I rarely shoot digital photos anymore and use my dslr strictly for video purposes. Now a days most of the photography I do is done on 35mm film with an Olympus OM1. Here’s some of the last photos I shot of Seitaro Iki before he flew back to Japan the next morning. Everyone came out to say goodbye to Seitaro at one point or another, but for the most part we cruised around in force like we always do. He made a lot of friends while he was here we were all torn to see him leave. I think Andy Sparks put it best, “This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you later”. Check out more 35mm photos HERE (more…)

WHEEL TALK JAPAN | TOUR VAN

Our journey to Japan Last year was a trip that I’ll never forget. We traveled all over the island and saw everything from the lush green farm fields that blanketed the southern tip of Japan, to the dense inner city of Shibuya Tokyo. Although we were only there for a couple short weeks we were able to do a 9 State Tour w/ a bunch of the dudes from Fukuoka and spend some time in Tokyo w/ Marco. The weather was so bloody humid the entire time, that we all became accustomed to carrying around a towel everywhere. We’re going to have to plan another tour in Japan next year.

SEITARO IKI | LAST SESSION

Seitaro Iki better know as “Say” has been living San Francisco for the last 10 months as he studied abroad and cut loose with us. I’m sad to say that today was his last day here in the States as tomorrow he flies back to his hometown of Fukuoka Japan. We enjoyed his final hours here by doing what we always do, hanging out and occasionally try a trick or two.
