A couple weeks ago we all met up in SF and drove down a dirt road to this DIY skate spot we’ve been wanting to ride. We set up camp, hydrated, ate pizza, and shredded until the sun started to set and the fog rolled in. The mix of quikrete and graffiti made the ditch as slick as ice and took some getting used to, but after about an hour or so everybody figured out the footwork and was back in action. This definitely wasn’t the easiest spot to ride, but that’s what made it rad. We all had a killer time and are already figuring out the next trip outside The City.
Anytime we link up with Dave Beard, there’s magic in the air. Sparks fly, time stops and occasionally we’ll shoot a photo or two. All jokes aside, Dave is one of the most brilliant photographers I know. He rarely makes his presence known, and acts like a fly on the wall shooting things as they happen without coordinating with the people in the image. The results create a truly genuine depiction of the moment and have an incredibly natural feel. Every time I get a roll of film developed it’s like a Christmas present to myself, and this one was no different. I nearly forgot that I brought my trusted 35mm camera along with us when the TURF Mob went camping along the coast. We piled into the back of Dave Beard‘s car and headed to the beach where we spent the day fishing, drinking, and hanging out by the fire. We had to bring Egg The Dog along with us considering the fact that he loves the sand and ocean more than anybody I know. Dew & Jaoa spent a lot of time fishing while they were here and I don’t think they managed to catch a damn thing besides this crab scurrying on the rocks. Check out more photos below.
Here’s some of the few photos I took during the Harness The Gnarness Jam that happened in Oakland a couple weeks ago. I focused on shooting video over photos and was lucky enough to have dudes like Kris Fay (Lockedcog), Mike Schmitt (TURF), Alex Gonzalez, and Ramon Antonio III around to shoot alternate angles throughout the day. Instead of each putting out our own video of the jam, we decided to combine clips and make a collaborative recap of the event. Here’s a little teaser Kris made to help give you an idea of what I’m talking about. Stay tuned because later tonight We’ll be releasing the official coverage of the first ever Harness The Gnarness.

With public transportation reigning supreme in the Bay Area, it’s rare that we ride anywhere that isn’t within range of the bus, bart, train, ferry, or riding to the spot. It’s always great having Dave Beard come out to take behind the scenes photos when we go out to ride. This day was the first time I did a tooth hangover down a handrail or 360 over gap with a fatal drop. After a successful day of being guided from spot to spot by Ramon Antonio, we wrapped up the day by hitting the Vallejo Skatepark before we headed home. Mike T. Schmitt’s bike was out of commission most of the day, but that didn’t stop him from riding the bowl at the local skatepark and catching these two photos. Mike is the only person I see attempting handplants on a regular basis, and has been doing so for years. Check out more photos from our trip to Vallejo HERE.

With Bart only running as far north as Richmond, we needed alternate transportation to make the trek to ride street spots in Vallejo. Ramon Antonio III came through w/ the Rack Solid Van, making it possible for this trip to happen. I’ve never seen Ramon ride as hard as he did that day, catching clips on every rail spot we went to. Yesterday Dave Beard met up w/ Ed Wonka, Mike Schmitt, Andy Sparks, & Alberto Fox to shred some street spots in the East Bay. Sunday’s always seem to be the day when everyone is available and when most businesses are closed. This weekly window gives us a chance to ride spots that are usually an immediate bust.
